Seeing what it would be like to be staff. I rode with Jeff and had a blast! Once we reached sag Jeff went on to other duties and I tried to chase down Jane. She beats me in, I buy lunch. I hammered and in the end made it in first, but only cuz she stopped on the wrong side of the rode to improvise facilities. I on the other hand just waited til I reached the hotel. Jane could definately do better.
Mike and Karen were interviewed today, our very own celebrities.
I also managed to have a mani-pedi. Toes match the bike!
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pamshedd.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-3-wednesday-july-29.html' title='Day 3. It's a bit chilly but I love riding in the morning. Spin class has been good for the 7min. warm up. I'm set and pick up the pace. See Jane and she is looking good and feeling strong. Make dinner plans and head for reach first SAG. Keep it quick. My mantra, nobody listens. 15min. Yuck! Loose Nick on way to second SAG. He's having a bad day. Sat on his glasses at breakfast, and now his cyclometer is on the fritz. Doug bibbed it and is having a hard time with the potty breaks. 10min. I'm off. Doug is alsotrying to meet up with a co-worker who is traveling East-West across America by car. Very cool. I'm off.

The wind was pretty favorable. Except for 20 miles of head wind. I make it in 7hrs.

Dinner and site seeing with Jane. We all know I'm technologically challenged, so when things don't work right away...
The road to Wall was short. 57 miles. We did have some wind. Not too bad. We road the freeway a bit, 14 miles. The freeway is loud, but it hasn't been too bad. The shoulders have been quite nice.
We all left together. The TriCyclist and Jane, warm the guys up, and get Jane going. The treat today is Wall Drugs. Jane's excited to see a tourist trap. Something different than the box shopping centers and WalMarts we've become acustom to. After a few miles the guys were warm and off. Just Jane and I. Hitting the road. Freeway. Heading to Wall. Not much talking. Except, I did mention the Badlands.
So, we met back up for lunch at Wall Drugs, apparently world famous. It kinda reminded me of Knotts Berry Farm. Western themed shopping. Just not drug store items. For which I had a list: deorderant (I left in the last hotel,) tooth paste, razors (which have been over worked). Picked that up later, at the grocery store before I had laundry duty.
Badlands. The plan was to come in with Jane, then add bonus miles to Badlands. Not even 20miles. The wind was blowing something fierce. I decided to pass. Save myself for the 117 up next. Jane went alone. Jane IS a badass! I was very worried when she left, proud when she came in.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

FW: Day 22 Monday July 13

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

FW: Day 20

No phone service the next few days. The Tri-Cyclist back together. Doug and I had it worked but three gives us recovery. We are not the only group of three, many broke off this way, which messes with my even number theory. Back to the ride 106 miles and a best time for all of us 6:40. And I can tell you there was definately room for improvement. Yes, that does include our 3 SAGS and 2 photo ops. There wasn't anything really of interest to photograph today, but I took a couple random shots like this Hammock I raced to when we arrived.

There was a parade right in front of our hotel just like in Prescott! If you own a horse, you're in. It was fun. They had some re-enactment of the Rawhide, but I passed. I look way too excited in this pic. But it is true, I came in first today. The last to leave Idaho falls and the first to reach Jackson Hole!
The day itself worked out great for me, but it really wasn't a great day at all. It was the worst we've had so far. The wind is not my friend. We started with a head wind til the first SAG. I complained to Karen and she says she made a request for a wind change. As she is speaking the wind did change. So we jumped on our bikes and headed toward Wyoming and our big climbs.
I hate to admit, but I had never really heard of the Tetons. Other people kept bringing it up and it became a must do for this trip. We finish climbing tomorrow. I could go home then and be happy. Today we got our first glimpse, they are amazing.
We picked up Chuck at the last SAG and Karen caught us once more for water before we hit the last climb. The Teton Pass. 3 mile climb at 9-12% grade. Quality! I set my pace and let the guys go on ahead. Slow and steady. It worked. Chuck stopped to take my picture. I kept going. As we neared the end I caught Doug pulled to the side. He cheered me on. My heart leapt a bit in gratitude. He's letting me get there first. Own that mountain, don't disappoint. Then it occurred to me, he wants a pic reaching the summit. I can do that. And I did.
As we regrouped. Took some photos caught our breathe, I asked if they wanted to stop in the next town for lunch or head straight into Jackson Hole? I'll never forget what happened next. Chuck says if I were you, I'd get on that bike straight to the hotel and sign in. First, you were first, and you earned it. You worked hard. I'll buy you your first beer.
So I did. Descending faster than I ever have straight to the hotel and got pictures. Later at lunch Doug congratulated me, I thanked him for letting get to the top first. He said no way, if he could have he'd have kept on going. So I earned it. First to sign in and maybe even a little respect.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 15 Monday July 6th

Top of Teton Pass over looking the valley. But nothing about today was easy but the ride. It was so quiet! My ears hurt. Doug is not a talker. Riding this morning in you guessed it more farmland. Nice easy warm up, then pick up the pace. We buzzed into the SAG and right out. It was 33 miles no
need to Snack much. We were done just around 1. Wanted to make the most of my time so I bee lined it to walmart and bought a swimsuit. Problem solved. Lounge by the pool.
Now did I mention our hotel is right on the falls. Which are beautiful. The noise, the caos. It was just long.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 13 - the 4th of July

One day I'm sitting in SouthWest Bicycle Shop talking with Jeff about my ability to complete this task. Asking if there was something I was missing. Something else I needed todo, something I needed to buy. So full of doubt. On that day I believe I talked him into putting on sissy/suicide breaks, now I don't regret putting them on, but he was right, I'm never gonna use them. Now I digress. So Lou, trying to be supportive says, "what are you worried about? you're just going to camp." Now Lou apparently doesn't know me. This is serious business. I have trained like no other. I have ridden with different types of cyclist. I have taken tire changing, chain repair and maintenance classes. I may not know what everything is called, but I am self sufficient on a bike. This was NOT camp. But on day 13 I am a champion at living out of a suitcase, ready to roll in 15 min with time to spare. I am meeting some amazing people and yes, labeling all my clothes. I AM AT CAMP!
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 12

We had a bike clinic on Care and Maintenance of your bike. They were actually quite amazing. This photo doesn't do it justice. We did a drive by as we headed to Burley. It was worth the stop. The ride itself was only 38 miles, but people were still tired from yesterdays ride. So just to slow us down today became treasure hunt. Scavenger hunt. I decided I hate them, messes with my ride nirvana.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 12

So the scavenger hunt. So first I rode, then I scavenged. We picked up sympathy votes on our team name "Nick-less" and when it came to the band-aid I displayed mine proundly on my elbow.
The best was the flower. Gordon found some fabulous specimen. Cut it and preserved it in a water bottle. But Sarge, he crafted one all on his own out of a worn tube. He called it the Pam Blossom. "It blooms only when Pam has a flat". I was very flatered. Two before second SAG. As we arrived at SAG 2 there was already a buzz. Yes Nick and I had been in a fender bender. I was fine, but Nick separated his shoulder. He flies home in the morning. Before we could leave the SAG, I had two more flats. And I was over it, day 11 would be 64 miles. Lucky for me Doug would hear none of it. He changed my tire for the forth time. And drug me in. I was thankful to have him today. I think i would have trown in the towel.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 11

I never thought I'd say this, but we saw some beautiful farm land. Yahoo! I was just so excited to ride today. Even my butt was happy to be back in the saddle. It really appreciated the day off.
Both Doug & Nick were dressed to impress. Nick sporting bright yellow bibs and matching jersey and Nick all sleeked out in this black Saab number. Nick was also feeling quite powerful after finally relenting and shaving the legs apparently he is feeling much lighter. So the ride was fast, and fun, but it had it's issues.
Most of the ride took place on I-84. So there was a little stress involved. Semi's whizzing by. The first 1/2 was smooth Doug stamp of approval. The second 1/2 was just the opposite. Somewhere around mile 40 Nick slit a tire. The goal was to slow it down a bit but I was too anxious. Right as we came into Mountain Home we came across a bike shop. They had no tires. So we stopped at Albertsons and got super glue to hold it over to the next stop. Next stop is 97miles.
I received an e-mail today from a great cyclist, who will be moving while I am away. Mark Danke found me at the Mining Country Challenge and invited me to ride with the Bullshifters. It really didn't fit Ito my schedual so he offered up a Tuesday ride, which I accepted. Mark taught me a lot of things. He made me technically a better rider. I will miss him. What surprised me the most about the note were the tears that came as he said he was proud of me. My best effort everytime. Bonus miles and quality hills.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 9

Then there was coffee and me time. He takes jersey day to the extreme! I really thought Jersey Day was kinda goofy, but today we are riding into Boise, Idaho and will be having our first day off. So ride we did. All 57 of us matching. Which was a very good thing since I lost my route sheet. As long as I could see a jersey ahead of me, I was doing good.
It was kind of a weird ride. Rode sections of it alone. It was kinda boring. I just couldn't seem to get enough. The longing to run emerged. Just ahead of me there was this amazing hill, at the base, every rider took a right. I took yhulp

Road with Jimmy our mechanic for a bit and he treated me and a few others to some bonus miles.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 7

Today we rode On the freeway. Yikes! Actually it wasn't that bad. Nice big shoulder and very light traffic. There was a problem with road construction though, so we were actually shuttled 8 miles I left my Garmin on (I'm taking credit for the miles.) It was suposed to also help with the directions but I still managed to get off corse. Once getting onto the highway going back where we came, luckily Nick whistled me back on track. Then missing a turn and winding up down town. Which wasn't so bad because Doug found this really cool old very "That Thing You Do" shop to have a photo op. It works on in the end.
I stopped for a photo op at a sign for the Oregon trail. There was a couple there i asked them to snap it for me. They were locals and shared a little history with me which was cool. About the pioneers and they're hardships, weather and Indians. I'm glad I stopped. We entered Mountain time today which was treated with a sign. I regret not shooting a picture of, right in the middle of a neighborhood.
After the 117 mile ride we were all excited to ride this 80 something. No complaints. Lots of down hill not so much up. Just following the Snake river. I did get bit up though. Must start using OFF.
I can't believe we've been riding for a week. Settling into riding groups. There's Tom, Ted, and Ken who ride a wicked good pace line, they let you join anytime. There's Sarge whom I like to say heads up the international delegation complete with flag. There are a few married couples with the team from Tucson adopting Vivian our high school grad. Roomie is riding with Gordon. He's from California, but with an unidentified accent. Sounds like she's picking up pace tomorrow though. Then there's me, Nick and Doug. The boys are roommates and we kinda ride together. It's more like we end up together. We seem to start out alone but wind up together somewhere in the route. I think it's that we all did some training alone and are comfortable there, but these are long rides, so company is nice too. And they kinda remind me of home. Of Jeff and the SouthWest Bicycle crew. Quiet, but not apposed to conversation. So sometimes we ride together, paceline or cruise in conversation, and sometimes we don't. But they're starting to feel comfortable. Maybe they just have something to teach me.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 6 edit

For some odd reason weight seems to be a topic of conversation. Could it be the calories we are burning through? We are definately eating, just not like at home. We're finding our way making adjustments and feeling strong. But on day 6 we don't feel light. (The crew is pointing out all the DQ's and dessert spots.) We will weigh in on our days off. Now I would love to loose that chunk I gained while in the cast. (Wouldn't that be nice.) But that is not my focus. Energy and Strength. Which are not in a burger by the way. Roomie Deborah and I have been hitting the grocery store buying extra fruit, and in a pinch carnation instant breakfast is working as a recovery drink. When I get to Boise I'll fix that. Oh yeah! I need to find the stick as well. It's been quite a hit. This one does snacks the other bike repairs. They tend to all our traveling needs making this one amazing trip.
Today was a nice yet challenging ride. Set an easy pace and muscled over the hill blew down the back side gliding thru the valley to the next set. Three to be exact. Nick wasn't feeling so hot today. So I paced him in. I hope he'll returnthe favor when I need it later this trip. We did have a blast. There were offsprey sightings as well as deer, alpaca, horse, oxen, steer and cows. We stopped for coffee. Enjoyed a quick lunch where Sarge was sure he was going to have a bar-b-que.
For some odd Redon
You
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 5

This is Bud, from San Diego. Bud retired on Friday, and was in Astoria on Sunday to start this ride. Bud bought his bike last month. What a way to start retirement! The best time to live your dream is now.
We could not have ordered better conditions for today. Though it was cold this morning, this afternoon was amazing! The climbs were challenging but after what we heard at rap, I was expecting worse. 117 miles. For most of us our longest distance to date. We all lived, thanks to a tail wind and a fresh chip seal our times were quicker than we had expected. We traveled through this canyon with a river running through it, the walls rising above us. Past some farm land rectangle bails of hay and round things of alfalfa I think. Past horses and cows, few steers. When we hit 100 miles Doug and I stopped for photos. And when the ride was done? Nachos and pepsi. What a celebration.

Dinner! The OutPost put on a most delicious spread. A great strawberry salad, chicken, veggies, rigatoni, rolls and cookies. I skipped the cookies and walked down to the DQ for a dipped cone.
Now everyone knows I am directionally challenged, but they haven't quite figured it out here yet. So sometimes when I lead it's not so good. One wrong turn yesterday, that's not so bad. However, if I want to lead, I must know where I am going. So tonight I study. The map, and other stuff.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 4

Only day four and already I don't know what day it is. I'm working a killer helmet tan. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it. I might need bangs.
Todays ride was beautiful. With views of all sorts of mountain ranges with snow. Lucky for me, I rode with some local folks from Oregon so I know there was Mt. Jefferson & the Three Sisters. They keep reminding us to look behind ourselves, which I'm glad I did. Past thru some farm land where they were growing some carrots the things i take for granted i didn't know carrots have a bloom. Haven't taken many photos but am hoping to get some e-mailed by the big picture taking people. I'll try and take a few tomorrow.
Highlight of the day:
Rode on this rural road today and was greeted by this young boy named Sean. He asked how far we were riding and was surprized to hear of our final distination. He rode with us for about a 1/2 mile then wanted to race us. He hung with us for about 400 yards. I wish I'd taken his picture riding along side us.

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 3

So I decided cami, base, jersey, jacket, leg warmers, and carried arm warmers, just in case. Note. Leg warmers tuck under and not over shorts or they slide down.
Mt. Hood has snow and lots of it all year. They are actually having a snowboarding camp now.
Climbing got us hot and descending fixed that. Reports were 52 @ breakfast and in the 90s by the time we were done. Come the second SAG I had stripped down to just the jeresy. Even Doc from Trinidad stripped down. Oh yeah! At the first SAG Barbara from staff gave me lessons on peeing in the woods. Like that'll ever happen. Bets are on day 5. 117 miles and I guess not much around. At least we have an easy 60 tomorrow. With quality hills;)
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 2

Cold but no rain. I wonder if I'll travel any of the same roads. As I think back, teachers have always been the ones to inspire me. Offer great lessons and wisdom.
Said good-bye to Scott. Without it, none of this would have been possible.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 1

-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Day 0

Today was all about the check-in, rules, Type-A's, and meeting the other riders. Oh yeah! And hitting the Pacific Ocean to dunk my tires and everybodys dreams.
Scott is with me. I snuck another night with him. Just means I get up a little early and sneak back to my room at the neighboring hotel. That will be the final good-bye. We'll meet up again in New Hampshire on August 10.
One more thing. As I prepared today to take off on my dream ride, my training pal lived out hers. The Amazing Alison Burnett completed her 3rd Ironman Triathalon. Ironman Coeur d'Alene, ID. Finishing with a PR to top it off. You Rock Chick!
Wake up call at 5.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

The Day Before the Beginning

Arrived at the Cannery. It was an easy pizza ride for my iron pal Alison, which made it perfect for me. And a few others. We actually had quite a group today funny, all you have to add is food. So ride, pizza, and girl time, boys had to find something else to do. Just laughing it up. Lots of laughing.
So how did it feel? Grip is tight. Really difficult, hand kinda fell asleep. I'll keep working it. Lisa met me for lunch this week and helped me with some exercizes to move things along. I'll stick to the plan.
Tomorrow is an easy 3 mile run, and time to readjust the schedual. The big challenge? To be ready to ride 112 in 7 days. Piece of cake, right?
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Finally Back on the Bike

After much too long... As part of a Wellness Unit, I was invited to share the story of my "Dream Ride". Four groups of 7th graders, which I must add is my favorite audience. Young people with one foot in childhood full of belief, curiosity and adventure, and one foot ready to take on the responsibilty of adulthood. So in I came, bike in tow. Map marked with the route. Facts ready to share. My desire to Plan and Act, the longing to Dream and Believe. In each group there were some of both. At 13 already thinking and planning their future paths.
Now the only information they were given was that it was guest speaker day. As I prepared myself I wondered if I could be engaging and keep them from falling asleep. Perhaps I should bring a worksheet to keep them busy. Lucky for them my kids reminded me that in 7th grade, guest speaker day meant Free Day. You just need to show up.
But not the Rockets. Let me tell you, they kept me engaged. Asking questions, sharing their career goals and as Mrs. Sprague would say using their active listening skills. They taught me. They taught me that I am prepared. I know my bike, even if I don't have the proper terms. I know my ride, even if I am directionally challenged, I at least know who to follow. In them I found a new confidence in myself. So to you Rockets, thanks! And should I find myself doubting myself again, from you I find my new mantra "Never Shout Never".
Now back to those teachers. On top of preparing lessons and managing the classroom, things they learned in school, there is the issue of dry mouth and the feeling you're repeating yourself. Whew! You go teachers! You're the Best!
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

May 12, Cast is OFF!

Yes it's true. After a little over a month I have been released. Well, I actually moved into a brace. Just as bulky and confining, but at least it can be removed and I can wash my hair without a bag. Ligament very tight. Dr. Ripple says it's healing. 5 weeks to departure. Taking it easy. Need to work my grip. Can't ride til I have some back. The plan just kept changing. Workouts boring, and pretty lonely. So improvise again. Back to the run. Even though it's been hard I had to be outside. Maintain my cardio fitness. So I ran. Just not too much, or too fast. Stuck with 6 miles at the speed of talk.
Now I can't think of a better way to kick off a Mothers Day than a nice run. The Arizona Road Racers put on an 8k at Rio Vista Park so I picked up a few moms, Monica and Nina and we ran. Celebrating our ability to run and appreciating the gift of Motherhood.
-----
Sent from mBox Mail
Hotmail for iPhone and iPod Touch
http://www.fluentfactory.com/mboxmail

Bike Prep

Well since I'm out of commission, I decided to use my time wisely. Today I visit Steve Ripple, old friend and Orthopaedic Surgeon. 9 days since my little spill. (A mile or two later I was sure it was dislocated. But by the time the ride was over I'd moved on.) Thursday, on advice from my sister and my husband. I drug myself in to have it looked at. I was prepared to hear sprain. But I guess my gut instinct is pretty good. They said dislocation. So training moved indoors this week end. I did manage an easy run too. I haven't done that in a while! It was almost like I was new. I had time to map out plans B&C, hopefully that's enough. 9 weeks till take off. I have a 5k set in there too. At least for now. Let's see what Steve has to say.

Southwest Sunday

Sundays with the guys out of Southwest Bicycles are always an adventure. First they live off Snickers. I thought I'd try it this week but was afraid it would become a really bad habit. So I sprung for an old faithful. The M&M's. Apparently we are back together and they are so delicious!

The weather here in Arizona this time of year is great! Warm, sunny, and flowers blooming everywhere. The cactus are my favorite. But more on that another day. April 15 sounds good. I just can't remember it ever being so windy. And wind really stinks on a bike. So we had wind and we had an amazing ride. Climbs that made your heart pump. Down hills with no stop signs! Thanks for mapping and tracking Jeff! When I become a techie I'll share more.

Now I'll never figure how I always manage to ruin the easy part of the ride. But I do. Crashed on my own this time loose dirt at a transition. I got up and kept going, but skinned the knee, yes the one that just healed. And jammed my thumb. It was quite a site today. But I'll live to ride another day. Tomorrow in fact. If all goes well, it's Mingus Mountain.

Windy Ride

So today was a challenge. The wind is not your friend. The route itself is very senic, and we've ridden it a few time... So I am pretty comfortable with it. But a 9 mile is a 9 mile hill. The grade not bad, it just never seems to end. Then there was the wind, which kept changing direction so we could keep our hair out of our face. It sucked. Steven was nice enough to let me drag behind him. But then I don't think I gave him a choice. Milage completed. Either 85.7, or 89. Depending on whose computer you believe. The Garmin or the little thing that twirls around the wheel. Told you I wasn't technical. Tomorrow is another day 50 ok the board I hope the wind dies down.

Day Off

Tour of Phoenix

Body Composition

The results are in! And after a month of training, weight down 3lbs. Circumference Measurements down & body fat up. Yes, I said up. 2% if you really want to know. Did I freak out? Only to my father-in-law. Had spoken to him the day before, "working out like crazy, kicking my butt like no other, and feel fat." to which he replies "well that's enough to make you depressed". Thanks dad. So even before my day of reconing, the plan had already been shifted. Weight training has been restored! Tuesday & Thursday right after an easy swim. Yes, I'm back in the water too. The trainer was a bit surprised. Thought I was going to loose it, thought he had some how goofed. No, it was me. Adjust the plan.

What was wrong with the old plan? Cardio, cardio, cardio, burning threw calories, not replacing properly and no rest! REST is just as important as the training. I need a scheduled day off. Right now rest is the hardest thing for me. But rest I must.

South Mountain

Today was Silent Sunday, which meant no cars in the park. So the runners, the hikers, the skateboarders, the unicyclist, as well as we cyclist had full rein of the road. We treked it up to the Towers. Now I took our picture but I can't figure out how to post it. Give me a week. The ride itself was pretty uneventful. Five of us made the 50 mile trip pretty much without incident. Jeff did get a flat and show cased his skills with a very relaxed change in 4 min flat. I tried to rattle him ticking off the minutes, but that is one cool cucumber. There was a wind advisory/ warning issued for today, lucky for us it held till we were almost back.

Goals this week. 250 miles on the road+ 5hrs inside. Swimming+stregnth training Tuesday & Thursday. Eating is looking better, and although the schedule was loaded I simply didn't have time to be Tired.

Mining Country Challenge

The Crash

Thank God it's over! I crashed! The unbearable fear of what would be... Is known. Thinking, waiting, anticipating, just wondering... How will I react? Could I handle it? Would I be able to get out of my bike? The answers: the BEST I can, like a trooper, clipped right out. In fact I was quite the acrobat. Flew right over the handle bars and back up on my feet. Seamless. Racked my knee pretty good, but flying off the bike. A few bruises. Yes there was blood and it did call for an unscheduled stop at the Mobil a few miles down for First Aid. Thanks Mobil! And thanks Southwest Bicycle crew for taking care of me. And yes we did finish our ride. 46 miles.

I learned so much. I know alot. My reaction time is pretty good. I merely bumped another rider, I didn't take him out. Sorry Jeff. I'm pretty tough! Not one tear. The crash also gave me a new confidence in my abilities.

Goals met for the week: 1. 278 miles covered on the road 4hrs completed indoor. 2. Rode 4 days in a row 50+ miles. This week stretching it out to 5.

On paper this was a really good idea. My dream come true. First week of training and I'm tired. Body's ok, I just seem to need the nap. 150 miles in this week plus 5 hrs. Inside. The goal this week is 250miles on the road 3hrs inside. Hopefully the napping will subside. Today is the day the training map begins. The goals for the next 30 days 1. To become comfortable on a bike 50miles 5 days a week. 2. Drop the 10lbs I thought I wanted to take with me. Then I saw Lance. No extra luggage. 3. To become technically savy. That will be the toughest. I need to learn how to work my phone. The iphone will become my life line. If I can learn to use it. I need a new watch, looking at a Garmin. Then I'll have to learn to use it. If I do, then I can stop trying to figure out the computer thingy on my bike. I hope 120 days are enough. Todays ride... 50 miles, alone. 3hrs. 8min. and my shuffle died. Must remember to charge the night before.
